Car Thefts Down, But Older Hondas Still A Target
“We’re looking at a 30 percent decline this year,” he said. “It’s fantastic.” All but one of Connecticut’s metropolitan areas ranked in the top half of the country for auto thefts per 100,000 people, according to the report. The Hartford metro area, which includes most of central Connecticut, ranks 163rd out of the 380 metro areas in the country, with 2,065 car thefts in 2012, or about 170 per 100,000 residents. The New Haven metro area ranks 105th with a rate of 222.3, and the Bridgeport area ranks 178th with a rate of 162.5. In 2012, the New Haven area had 1,918 auto thefts, and the Bridgeport area had 1,518, according to the report. The Norwich metropolitan area ranked 302nd with 240 auto thefts last year and a rate of 87.5 thefts per 100,000 population.
